Dig into your stash of scraps and fat quarters and discover the magic of transforming them into captivating faces, each with its own captivating story. Just like Lays potato chips, you'll find it hard to stop at just one! Don't fret if you're new to sewing – Jean's guidance will leave you astonished at the masterpieces you'll produce.
Prepare to unleash your creativity as you fashion 2 to 3 portraits in a single day. Here's what you'll need to bring:
· Background fabrics for your portraits (fat quarters are ideal)
· Assorted scraps and fat quarters to add depth and character to your faces.
· Novelty fabrics for unique touches (ever thought of using train motifs for hair?)
· Basic sewing and cutting tools, including rotary cutters, scissors and pins.
· Glue Stick (essential for the process) – opt for Elmer's Washable School Glue Sticks, the purple-colored ones available at office supply stores.
· Optional: quilting and finishing supplies for those eager to complete their projects in class
Jean will walk you through quilting and finishing techniques, though many participants prefer to work on these aspects at home. The choice is yours!
During this workshop, participants will acquire a diverse set of skills:
· Transforming your perspective on fabrics, encouraging a new creative lens.
· Effectively repurposing fabric scraps that were once overlooked.
· Utilizing batting scraps innovatively.
· Exploring the art of collage within quilting.
· Mastering principles of design, including proportions and balance.
· Enhancing your creations through thoughtful naming and storytelling.
· Recognizing quilts as expressive pieces of art.
· Learning two distinct quilting techniques: pencil quilting and Jean's unique "sketchy quilting."
· Discovering a streamlined method for machine binding quilts.
· Exploring Jean's preferred sewing tools and possibly crafting or utilizing them.
· Embracing the joy of creativity, fostering a supportive community, and experiencing the enriching synergy of shared ideas and materials.
